Employers and employees were both invited to share their views during a workshop entitled “For the expansion of women’s employment in Pécs”.

As an element of the “Work AND Family – The improvement of women’s labour market position and the creation of the Women’s Centre in Pécs” project (EFOP-1.2.9-17-2017-00082) a workshop was held at the House of Civil Societies on the 15th of October with the purpose of gathering together employers and employees to share their experiences and create a mutual stance. At the end of the session the participants composed an official recommendation as well.

The first professional event of the project was a workshop targeting the expansion of women’s employment. It was opened by the greetings of Dr. László Őri deputy mayor, which was followed by roundtable discussions among the employers and employees covering the topic of women’s employment. Presentations were also held exhibiting the main problematic areas within the field of women’s employment, new forms of employment, and the development of the county’s employment tendencies.

The roundtable discussions pointed out that the SME sector is responsible for providing a living for 73% of the employees, however, atypical employment forms are not common. This makes it hard for women to harmonize family and work related expectations, which is the principal obstacle preventing them to return to work mainly after giving birth. Another problem is the inequality between the salaries offered by provincial and Budapest-based employers. Skilled workforce is siphoned off by out-of-region multinational companies, which poses a challenge for smaller companies within the Baranya County area.
