We'll show you who is behind the translations of Hungarian books. This year, agencies are also supporting Life and Literature, the Hungarian Association of Translators and the Writers' Shop: FleishmanHillard Café, Noguchi and FERLING are also supporting the Book Interpreters project. During the year 2024, the editors of Life and Literature will interview the leading literary translators of contemporary literature in the Writers' Shop.

The latest books, classics of world literature, great poems, our favourite novels... Many of them we might not even know if they weren't available in Hungarian, thanks to the translators. However, they’re more in the background, their names appear in the first few pages of the book, but not elsewhere. We would like to support them by giving them the wide visibility they deserve.

Throughout the project, we're working together to give as many people as possible the opportunity to learn about the special craft of translation. At the Writers' Shop, the Book Interpreters' discussion series gives us an insight into the daily lives of translators, sharing their difficulties and achievements. We will also get answers to fascinating questions such as how many hours of work it takes to translate a novel and how the original author is involved in the translation process. There will be personal recommendations focusing on the young generation of literary translators.

We’re supporting this initiative on the agency front, sharing tasks with FleishmanHillard Café and Noguchi to promote the reading of Hungarian literature and raise the visibility of literary translators through the media.
