A bicycle tunnel is being built under the M1 motorway.
The cycle track that runs from Etyek through Bicske to Tarján crosses the M1 motorway with a special technical solution.
The professionals are building a tunnel under the motorway with pressurization process without limiting the car traffic to provide a cycle track where the bicycle traffic can proceed safely . The most interesting part of the work started last week. For this occasion, our agency organized a press event at the construction site, where a number of nation-wide and local media represented themselves.
As a part of the HUF 4 billion investment-series that started in last autumn in Etyek and in its surroundings a cycle track is being built. The section that runs from Etyek to Tarján through Bicske and Csabdi crosses the M1 motorway near Bicske. A level crossroads on the clearway was unimaginable of course, so the designers selected a nontraditional solution: they are building a tunnel through the filling of the motorway with pressurization process. The whole cycle track is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
Regarding the future plans Zoltán Tessely, the prime minister commissioner responsible for the development of the region told: „We would like to establish a safe cycle track connection from Etyek to Esztergom to the north, and to Ercsi to the south. With this, the Eurovelo 6 international cycle track’s section that avoid the capital city would be established, also it would connect Pannónia Szíve - the northern part of Fejér county- to the international cycling tourism’s main channel.”
