Our PR expert János Sebők gave a lecture on the evolution of human communication technologies, the birth of social media and the metaverse initiatives ruling the current tech trends to the Master's students of the University of Pécs Faculty of Economics.

Is this the technology of the future that will transform our lives soon, or is it just a bubble that will burst spectacularly sooner or later? For now, no one knows where the tech world's metaverse projects will end up. They all are virtual spaces using augmented or virtual reality, independent of the individual user, in which we can work, play, shop and participate in different activities with friends through our avatars – just like in the real world. Today several metaverse-like services coexists, but developers are hoping they will one day be interoperable.

Or they will disappear due to lack of appropriate technology and user demand.

The marketing MSc students who attended János Sebők’s lecture were able to learn about the steps human communication technology has taken to get this far. The two most important conclusions: Firstly, development has accelerated enormously in recent decades: while we used to have to wait centuries for the tools that fundamentally transformed communication, nowadays the internet and then smartphones have appeared in our lives. On the other hand, technological determinism has worked until now: people are using the available technologies and they shape the way we think and communicate.

The class on metaverse was just the first event of the cooperation between our PR agency and the Faculty of Economics. In the spring semester, our colleagues József Ferling and Emese Lakner-Sélley will join the training programmes as speakers.
