Show trial victim mining engineers were honoured with a new memorial stone inaugurated by the Mining History Foundation of Pécs – our PR agency’s’ partner – on the mining day ceremony during the city day of Pécs.

Coal and uranium mining dominantly shaped the identity and economy of Pécs during the 20th century. Since the closure of the shafts about twenty years ago the Mining History Foundation of Pécs is committed to maintain its heritage. The organisation founded by former mining engineers is erecting numerous monuments in the whole city, publishing books and organizing ceremonies in order to remember the work of their predecessors.

On the traditional mining day of this year four mining engineers were honoured with a new memorial erected in Ágoston Square. They were innocently charged and sentenced to many years in prison for sabotage during a show trial in 1950. Their competence were essential therefore they could continue the work behind the bars even though they were declared as dangerous criminals. After they were released and rehabilitated they got responsible jobs in the mines again.

Descendants of the four victims unveiled the memorial stone during the ceremony attended by hundreds. Our PR agency cooperated with the Foundation by organizing the event. Furthermore, managing the media and raising public awareness were our jobs as well.
